If the wireless router, you should have no problems connecting to, unless it is protected by WEP, which would prevent your DS to connect to the Internet.
Have someone with you when you make sure that your router and if so, ask the WEP key. Then enter your configuration of the Wi-Fi while you set up to make your Access Point.
If this fails, try asking someone who is internally restart the router and then try again. If it still does not work, then you may have a faulty device.
